At Off Centre the DJ is seen as an artist playing an instrument of personal expression called the turntable. These five day programs are designed to engage the imagination of students from all musical backgrounds. With the majority of learning being hands on, students are encouraged use their mistakes as a way of discovering new things. Furthermore, our focus is placed not only on technical aspects of mixing, scratching, and use of equipment, but a DJ culture component is highlighted to emphasize that there’s much more to music than commercial hits. Secrets that take years to learn are revealed in a warm home studio design featuring small class sizes for ease of communication. This is 21st century music education....having fun with vinyl!
Summer DJ Camp Dates [1 - 4pm]:
Introduction Level: Covering all the basics of mixing/scratching and use of equipment. This course is designed for the beginner who has little to no experience on the turntables. The main focus of the Intro camp is to develop hand skills, basic music theory, and experiment with different ways of playing with sound on the turntables. We'll have you beat matching by the end of the week. This course is also a good way to test out the equipment before spending a lot of money.

Intermediate Level: Built on the basics of mixing & scratching learned in the Intro course and placing them within the context of set development. Here we'll hone in on specific skills and aspects of the art that will let you play in any environment. You'll also start crafting an idea of your personal musical style/character by exploring different sounds and developing a musical style that suits you. The Intermediate session leads towards crafting a 10 minute set which each of you will perform on the final class.
